Soap production
Learning a new craft, supporting hygienic habits, as well as economic support was behind the birth of a new soap production project in Bozoum. The initiator is Nurse Anne-Marie, director of the Day Orphanage Hospital, who invited the staff of the orphan day care center, who participates in creative activities, and a student from the Kana Women’s Education Center.
Palm trees and peanuts are a gift of nature for Central Africans. In the Central African language, sango the word “mbourou” has two meanings: palm and life. Palm trees in the wild do not require special care and can be used whole (for the production of oil, butter, soap, but also as a fuel). The processing of oil palm fruit is the domain of women in the Central African Republic, who can strengthen the family budget by producing soap.
Soaps are produced in the orphan day care center and older children are involved in the production. Some of the soaps produced are given to orphans, some are for sale. The price of one soap is between 100 – 125 CFA (which corresponds to 4 – 5 CZK).
You can symbolically support the soap production project by purchasing handmade soap from a Czech certified manufacturer at the Hand in Hand e-shop.
The project is supported in 2024 from SIRIRI funds in the amount of 1000 Euros.
